Background

Patients for Patient Safety Canada is the result of a Canadian initiative to build on the success of World Alliance for Patient Safety workshops. A Canadian network of champions—patients and family members from coast to coast—was established. People in health regions and healthcare organizations who saw them as partners in improving patient safety often nominated them.

Many of these people had personal stories of heartache and loss, grief and frustration. They were able to look beyond personal events, draw from their experiences, and collaborate to set in motion the foundation for PFPSC, an organization created to give a voice to those who were unheard.
